Miss Universe Dress Social 1

Welcome back to my blog!

I’ve been busy! and not busy blogging, which is a shame because I kind of miss this thing.

It has been awhile since I did a sew along social and this should be a fun one! My good and gorgeous friend Christine Adela White will be taking the Miss Universe Canada stage soon and I am putting the final touches on a few things for her wardrobe.

Day 1 of the big dress, drawing constellations on chiffon:

New Blogs: Solo Lisa and Law of Fashion

The seasons are changing (albeit rather slowly in Vancouver!) and the Spring collection is out on the street and the blogs! Here are a couple of updates from last week:

Law of Fashion:

Solo Lisa:

25 Cool Canadian Spring Picks- Flare Magazine!

Good morning pretty people!

I have been busy sewing sewing like a woman possessed! (…by some sort of sewing demon?) hehe but a little blogging break means lot’s of new updates!

Very cool weekend surprise, the Cenora dress is on Flare Magazines 25 Cool Canadian Picks list! Click to check it out:

I have been sewing up a few Ivia dresses in the floral print. The shapes of these pattern pieces make for fun sewing, I like that through the whole process the pieces look beautiful and interesting:

It is still pretty chilly in Vancouver but I layered a spring piece and took it out for a test drive! The floral is so vivid, I think it even makes the most casual outfit pop! little toque, big glasses:

Last week the spring collection was featured on a couple awesome blogs so check out some spring time picks and a bit of Q & A on:

The Notebook of a Product Junkie:

And Piece of Cake, Peace of Mind:

Onward toward another busy and lucky week! Lucky because I saw the end of a rainbow! It was in a parking lot that held dumpsters and porta potties, but…lucky still I think.

Press, Pagents and the Pentagon, mixed bag update!

A little neglectful of the blog this week, but I’m back…with sunshine…for you.

I am getting started on a press section for the site:

Click on the pic to be transported to updated ABOUT page and lot’s of fun info and pics!

Some more fun news:  Miss Universe Canada contestant Christine Adela White-

has put together a super FUNdraiser benefiting her candidacy, the SOS Children’s Villages and the Ride to Conquer Cancer. There is also going to be a fashion show to get everyone pumped for spring! Let me know if you would like some tickets, facebook event details are here:

From Geek to Catwalk: Fundraiser for Miss Universe Canada 2012

Christine is going to be wearing lot’s of my designs while on the competition circuit and I am going to be doing her gown! I think she will let us do a follow along social with the big reveal pics of her on stage in May. Good times ahead.

One more little treat! My good friend Jill and her husband Chris got to visit the White House and the Pentagon because Chris is a very big deal (Coast Guard of the Year big deal!) and she toured around, looking adorable, in a couple of my designs:

Hugging Michelle Obama!

Touring the Pentagon:

Have a great weekend! I will be back next week!

New Bridal Pics!

Good Morning, back to it!

Last week I collaborated on a photoshoot with Robyn from Shibang Designs. She has started making beautiful custom bridal clutches; made to order and match with any wedding color story. She took some great pics of Christine White (hopeful Miss Universe Canada, facebook here!) wearing a couple of my bridesmaid designs and carrying the lovely clutches. Here’s a few shots to start your week off:

I also started a little bridal tab that you can get to from the homepage. I will be posting new styles throughout the wedding season. Have a good Monday!

January News and Updates!

Exciting news! Remember the beautiful model I used to shoot Fall 2011/12?

Her name is Christine Adela White and I have decided to be her clothing sponsor for the Miss Universe Canada competition! I think she would be a fantastic representative for Canada and am super exicted to watch her compete. Check out and like her facebook page here:

http://www.facebook.com/Christine.White.Miss.Universe.2012

I will keep the blog updated on her progress and post a full profile (and hopefully some shots of her in action in the Spring 2012 collection!)

Also, when I was in Calgary I finally had the chance to check out Studio Intent. Here is the entrance from the Art Central side:

And here are a couple other shots from inside:

It’s a really beautiful store and Art Central is full of amazing galleries and shops, I had such a fun time there and recommend checking it out!

I am back with a new year social sew along tomorrow, it’s going to be intense!

Pantone Color of the Year: Tangerine Tango

Hello, welcome back! I hope you all had a lovely holiday break!

I enjoyed beautiful holiday weather and made lot’s of springtime plans and then Pantone announced it’s 2012 color of the year: Tangerine Tango!

I was thinking the same thing, I love this color for spring! Kind of a fun take on a traditional fall color. Pantone calls it a sophisticated color with a lot of depth.  I used it all over my spring/summer collection; here is a little preview of some tangerine options for spring:

That should brighten up the day a bit! Have a good weekend, I will be back to more regular posting next week!

Draped Bridesmaid Dress 2

The second dress in the draped bridesmaid series is a little bit of a looser Grecian style, not so structured.  I really liked this skirt idea when I started:

But when I took the pattern and recut it came out a little stiff for me:

I wanted a bit more movement through the skirt and the top to have more volume and look more drape-ish, less pleat-ish, on the body. So I added some volume and a few extra pleats and tacks for this effect:

Close up of the skirt detail, which will actually sit at the side of the body but is pulled a bit to the back in this sample:

I like this fit for this style a lot. The actual fabric is a beautiful silk with lot’s of drape so for this style the waist seam needs to fit just right but everything else can kind of flow and take shape with wearer.

Just a reminder that the Local-E pop up shop is only open until Sunday so get on it this week! I still have a few things over there, including this cutie:

Have a good day!
